HOMBERGER HOUSE, CO. KILKENNY, IRELAND (RJA)
The brief for the Homberger House included a recording studio, and performance space to mirror the contemporary style of music being composed and performed by the clients. The project was centred around a number of small derelict granite farm buildings set in a very rural location in Ireland. A new curved roof barn structure, deriving inspiration from the local agricultural vernacular, forms the heart of the building which has been designed with proportioning references to harmonic resonances and includes a 'harp' stair. The house has been reviewed by a number of international design publications and was one of 5 short-listed for the Blueprint iDFX international design awards in 2000. |
