THE OSTLERS HOUSE, THE HARE AND HOUNDS, PICKWICK, WILTSHIRE
The Ostlers House was originally part of the stable accommodation for the Hare and Hounds coaching house owned by Moses Pickwick, of Charles Dickens fame. The Grade II listed building was purchased by Wiltshire Historic Buildings Trust and HBA were commissioned to repair and convert the building, which had been derelict for over 40 years, to a domestic dwelling. The project involved some careful design work to introduce a new staircase into the heart of this very small building and achieve the maximum usable internal space whilst retaining all the historic features and character of the building. The repair works required skilled craftsmen to stone tile the roof, lime render the walls, and carry out items of new work including stone carving, letter cutting, purpose made joinery and ironwork and new stone walls. |
